Don't frown at exegesis (study of text) as the custom of many who in the bid to appear Spiritual nullify Bible study. They say the spirit is able to teach so we don't need to confuse ourselves or bother explaining texts in context. Well, that's not true. Paul knew very well that Timothy had the Holy Spirit within him and yet he told him to Study.
1 Timothy 4:13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. More emphasis in the second letter.
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Also he wrote to the Ephesians about the letter he wrote them.
Ephesians 3:3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,
3:4 Whereby, WHEN YE READ, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) That's why we study.... The Revelation of Christ is in the understanding of the texts, the understanding of the Epistles—rightly dividing the word of truth. Paul wrote by the Revelation of Christ. His messages are trusted.
Galatians 1:11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
1:12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Peter also confirmed his wisdom.
2 Peter 3:15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
THIS IS WHY WE MUST STUDY IN CONTEXT.
Do not give room for tricky preachers, who lack a proper understanding of the scripture to deceive you. Peter called them "the unlearned and unstable". Many among them are based on "the rhema word ", they say the spirit speaks to them and yet their words contradict perfectly the scripture (exegesis).
They are quick to quoting 2 Corinthians 3:6 ...for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
A total misconception. A misapplication of the verse. Friend, the MAJOR problem the church have today originated from MISINTERPRETATION of the scripture and can only be fixed by proper Interpretation (exegesis). Be wise. Don't be ignorant. Study! Learn! Be taught! With this the Rhema word will find expression in your knowledge. Then will you portray the Christ rightly, as an able Minister of the Gospel.
Blessed.
