THE BIBLE ON THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS

A FRIEND ASKED: Is there any difference between the forgiveness mentioned in Matthew 6:14-15 and that mentioned in Ephesians 4:32 and Colossians 3:13?

See the scriptures:

Matthew 6:14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

6:15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Ephesians 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Colossians 3:13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

Answer: No. The same forgiveness but a difference in Dispensation (testament) makes a difference. You must understand that there is a difference between the four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) and the Epistles (e.g Ephesians, Colossians).

Understanding the new testament lies in the Epistles, not the four Gospels nor the old testament—they are sealed. Before the glorification of Christ, it was a 'give-and-take', which was the proper way to obeying the Law. 'Do more to earn more from God.'

Since He wasn't glorified yet, he wasn't lifted yet (John 12:32), He thought them the proper way to the law, what the law really is, not assumptions of the Pharisees, teachers of the law. Among many is 'forgive to be forgiven'. Why? They have not been forgiven yet; Jesus had not paid for the sin (of the world) yet. He spoke to the people in an 'unrevealed manner', better still MYSTERY, which I earlier called sealed (see Mark 4:10-11).

Jesus also speaking here, John 16:12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Now the NEW TESTAMENT, the REALITY OF CHRIST COMING was installed through death. Hebrews 9:16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. (Read more on this, the whole chapter.)

At the glorification of Christ, THE TRUTH CAME TO LIFE, REVEALED BY THE SPIRIT. In the light of FORGIVENESS, Believers now are expected to forgive others because God forgave them first for Christ's sake (His death). (See Romans 5:8-17

Now it is the doctrine of 'Forgive because you've been forgiven'. No longer, 'forgive to be forgiven'. Why? Jesus now paid for sin(s) already. We (Believers) did not earn God's eternal forgiveness because of what we do (forgiving others), but because of what Christ did.

Hebrews 5:9 And being made perfect [Jesus], he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him [Believers]; Hence, we FORGIVE OTHERS freely, the nature of a perfected soul. So, it's the same forgiveness (forgiving, forgiving of a thing) but a different approach made by the Death, Resurrection, and Ascension of Jesus Christ — His glorification. It is the same as our Justification WITHOUT WORKS (works like 'forgiving others first').

Clear?

Blessed.
