Narcism

Maybe we got on the wrong side of the track

When we checked the meal on the menu.

For in our thought we seek one

Which may not only quench our hunger

But in the same vain add a little to our stature.

In every photo, we look out first; for us—our posture.

The Rapper and the Poet have a cut of the culture.

Maybe oblivion got the better of us:

For in the same fate we evade, we err—

Being bitter about the excesses of self-love,

Yet, ignorantly loving ourselves in excess;

For every choice we make is a reflection of “I”—

What ‘I’ want; and what ‘I’ detest.

Even then, let us not speak of its gravity upon all

For as a little leaven leavens the whole lump

So does an iota of egotism soil the whole one.

And maybe, just maybe, with Narcissism,

We must all take a turn to eat humble pie.
